The average cost of college tuition and fees for the 2014–2015 school year, according to the College Board, was $31,231 at private colleges, $9,139 for state residents at public colleges, and $22,958 for out-of-state residents attending public universities. College educations are expensive, no doubt.
Remarkably, two Colorado-based foundations are offering scholarships that amount to full-rides for four year college educations. The Boettcher Foundation provides approximately 40 merit-based full-ride scholarships for any accredited college in Colorado yearly. The Daniels Fund provides 230 scholarships to students in Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico and Utah to any accredited college in the United States. Both foundations were established by generous entrepreneurs who made their fortunes in my home state and believed that education is the key to keeping our state and nation great. Both programs surround the scholars with support to help them thrive in college and in life.
I am honored to serve on the Boettcher Foundation Board of Trustees and Linhart Public Relations is working for the Daniels Fund to help reach potential scholars through a social media campaign. I have been privileged to help interview prospective scholars for both programs and am blown away by the caliber and character of the student finalists. Yet, there are still many who are unaware of these coveted scholarships, so help me pass the word that deserving and motivated students may be able to attend college via one of these scholarships.
Please encourage promising high school seniors to apply and take advantage of the incredible foresight of these two outstanding foundations and the generous gifts of their founders, Bill Daniels and Charles and Claude Boettcher.
