Raising Awareness Among An Important Target Audience
Since 1965, Colorado Technical University (CTU) has helped meet the educational needs of its students by offering flexible, accessible and rewarding degree programs.
With approximately one-third of its student population affiliated with the military, CTU wanted to make sure it was focused on giving back to those who serve our country and their families with higher education opportunities – especially as many were returning home and facing a challenging transition to civilian careers.
CTU created a Wounded Warrior Scholarship program to offer educational assistance to wounded service men and women and their families as they recover from their injuries and prepare for new career opportunities. Each year, 25 wounded service members and veterans and 25 spouses of wounded warriors receive a full scholarship to attend CTU. It’s the only program of its kind offered by a for-profit university.
Since 2009, Linhart PR has supported the program through the following:
•Proactive media relations – reaching millions of people through news coverage about the program in national, local and military trade media, such as National Public Radio, Military Times magazine, Colorado Springs Gazette, and San Antonio Express-News, to name a few. The coverage focuses on the recipients’ transition to civilian life or new careers, with the help of higher education opportunities from CTU
•Content creation – infographic and video development for CTU to share on its social channels and to use as tools to recruit other wounded warriors and their spouses to apply for the scholarship program
•Multimedia – audio news release and multimedia news release coordination and development to secure greater national reach and visibility
CTU reports that positive, peer-to-peer word of mouth among current military students/spouses often influences other military members or veterans to enroll
Since the inception of the program, CTU has awarded 300 scholarships worth nearly $6.5 million to wounded warriors and veterans and their spouses
